Paul Kelly (A-Z) - ‘A’ and ‘B’

Rohan February 8th, 2008

Paul Kelly, arguably Australia’s most pre-eminent singer/songwriter, is currently making available for free download from his website, one hundred songs from his extensive musical anthology. It all started a couple of years back during a tour in which Kelly sang a selection of 100 songs, in alphabetical order, over a four-night period. Such was the success of this series of shows, Kelly selected the best versions of each song and has now made them available for download, also alphabetically, one letter per month over a period of two years, starting with the ‘A’ songs in January 2008 (yes, if you’re just reading this now, you’ve already missed them, as too have I) and being replaced by the ‘B’ songs in February 2008, and so on.

And the reason for this post, and the ones I will publish in the months to come - apart from the fact that I am a fan of Paul Kelly’s immense musical talent - is to maintain a list of the songs being made available for anyone who may be interested, seeing as though previous month’s songs do not appear to be listed on the Paul Kelly website anywhere (I’m sure the full list will eventually be published, probably once all the songs have been released, but that’s nearly two years from the date I’m typing this post).

‘A’ Songs - January 2008

  • Adelaide
  • After The Show
  • Anastasia Changes Her Mind

If anyone happens to have downloaded these first three songs, and is willing to share, I would love to hear from you, as I was a bit slow off the mark and missed them.
Update: Thanks to all who volunteered to share - got them now!

‘B’ Songs - February 2008

  • Be Careful What You Pray For
  • Beautiful Promise
  • Before The Old Man Died
  • Before Too Long
  • Beggar On The Street Of Love
  • Behind The Bowler’s Arm
  • Blue Stranger
  • Blues For Skip
  • Bradman
  • Brand New Ways

Get the current month’s songs from Paul Kelly A-Z and enjoy listening to this master craftsman at work.

    Hi Rohan.
I have the A songs but only just missed the B songs due to absence. Drop me an email to give me a return address and I will send you the A’s in exchange for the B’s!
    Cheers
    Richard

  2. Rohanon 01 Mar 2008 at 11:47 am

Thank you for the kind offer Richard - happy to oblige and email sent!

  3. Tanyaon 05 Mar 2008 at 9:53 pm

    Rohan,

Was about to make the same offer as Richard, but he’s beaten me to it. Any chance of still getting a copy of the B songs? I too managed to miss them.

    Cheers

    Tanya

  4. Rohanon 06 Mar 2008 at 5:41 am

Thanks for the offer Tanya - appreciated.
This must be your lucky day! I woke early this morning with the aim of getting some “housekeeping” tasks done before my workday begins. One of those tasks was to remove the ‘B’ songs from my server now that Richard had downloaded them (I don’t want to keep them there forever, they’re taking up disk space!)… and there was your comment, requesting the ‘B’ songs - talk about good timing!
So, for a short time only, I will keep the ‘B’ songs on my server for anyone who may have missed them.
You can get them from http://www.websitesbydesign.com.au/stuff/pksongs/
    Enjoy!

    Hi there,

Is anyone willing to share the A’s. I can see that the B’s have already been traded & the C’s are still up on Paul’s site, so I have nothing to offer up, except that I can help in the future with the alphabet.

    Thanks
    Julia

  6. Rohanon 11 Mar 2008 at 10:38 am

Ok peoples, I have added the ‘A’ songs to the same page as where the ‘B’ songs currently are and will leave them there for a few weeks (probably the first or second week in April), at which time I will have to take them down.
You can get them from http://www.websitesbydesign.com.au/stuff/pksongs/

Has anyone got the C songs? I had a problem and lost them

  8. Stephenon 12 Apr 2008 at 10:48 am

It’s ok I found them at the following link:

    http://media.paulkelly.com.au/A-Z%20DOWNLOAD%20MP3s/C/Paul_Kelly_C.zip

  9. Rohanon 12 Apr 2008 at 12:18 pm

Glad you were able to find the missing ‘C’ songs Stephen - that was a great find!
It will be interesting to keep an eye on that corner of the web to see if more ‘previous month’ songs will be stored there.

  10. Rohanon 12 Apr 2008 at 12:25 pm

Just an update for anyone trying to track down the ‘A’ and ‘B’ songs I was hosting for a short time… unfortunately you will have to find them elsewhere as I have now removed them from my server.

    Hello,
We are studying Paul Kelly’s lyrics in Yr 12 English at the moment. I have just discovered the downloads from his website, however i have clearly missed A, B, C and D tracks. If these could be made available somewhere I would be eternally grateful,
    Many thanks

    Hi,

Just found this thread, and am looking to get the A songs and B songs as like other’s here slow off the mark.

I was able to still get C from stephen above link - Cities of texas did not work and If anyone could help that would be great.
Links for D and E worked by changing the letters eg

    http://media.paulkelly.com.au/A-Z%20DOWNLOAD%20MP3s/D/Paul_Kelly_D.zip

    http://media.paulkelly.com.au/A-Z%20DOWNLOAD%20MP3s/E/Paul_Kelly_E.zip

Thanks for the time and just love PK

  19. Rohanon 06 Jun 2008 at 4:32 pm

Vanessa, using your links to the PK websites as a guide, you can actually download individual songs (in addition to the .zip files containing each letter’s collection).
For example the song you require, Cities Of Texas, can be downloaded from http://media.paulkelly.com.au/A-Z%20DOWNLOAD%20MP3s/C/05%20Cities%20Of%20Texas.mp3

    Hi,

My wife started collecting them from A but after returning home from a trip away I synched my MP3s from my iPod to the computer and ended up deleting them. :(

I’ve managed to get the C to F but was wondering if anyone can give me a copy of the A and B songs? I can supply you a blank CD and a stamped and addressed envelope (and my eternal thanks - you may even save my marriage).

    Thanks.

  21. Tonyon 15 Jun 2008 at 1:25 am

Thanks Rohan - you are a life saver!

  22. Tyleron 16 Jun 2008 at 3:06 pm

    Hi,
It really seems that you have saved a few other PK fans, i was wondering if you could help another. I recently had some computer troubles of my own and am currently builing back my music collection and Im missing A-B-C, luckily my gf had D-E-F on her mp3. If you could email them to me it would be a great help.
    cheers

  23. Michelleon 18 Jun 2008 at 6:40 pm

Hello Rohan - please take pity on those of us who have just started collecting the A-Z and make A and B available again for download from your site. We would all be very very grateful :) Thank you.

  24. Brianon 19 Jun 2008 at 6:26 am

    Hello,
I’m another unfortunate soul who missed the A and B songs. I’ve searched and haven’t been able to find them posted anywhere, but I see that a couple of people here have been willing to share. Anyone out there willing to email me zip files of the A and B songs?

I’ve been a fan since the mid 80’s when I first heard PK on a college radio station in Washington state, USA. Finally had the chance a couple of years ago to see him perform live in Portland, Oregon. What a treat.

    Thanks - Brian

  25. Brianon 19 Jun 2008 at 6:56 am

Wouldn’t you know, I found it after all! Here’s a link if anyone’s still looking for the A and B songs:

  26. Rohanon 19 Jun 2008 at 8:55 am

Great work Brian :-) You’re a better man than me for finding the elusive A and B songs!
    Happy listening!

  27. Lisaon 10 Jul 2008 at 8:50 pm

Well - I now have A-D and G, thanks to the generosity of Paul and his PK site, and of course to Rohan who replaced those tracks I lost with my stolen computer earlier this year. I now find my F file is corrupted! Happy to exchange any of the others for F.
    Best wishes to all,
    Lisa

  28. Rohanon 10 Jul 2008 at 11:27 pm

Hi Lisa - this should get you back on track…
    http://media.paulkelly.com.au/A-Z%20DOWNLOAD%20MP3s/F/Paul_Kelly_F.zip
I believe the collection of ‘F’ songs was about 26MB in size (or something like that).

  29. CBon 23 Jul 2008 at 1:47 pm

    Hi Rohan,

I just want to say that you’re a legend !! I missed “F” and have just found your post of 10 July where you give Lisa the link.

    Thanks.

Like everyone on this blog, I too am a fan! I left Canada to travel Australia last November and was mesmerized by the works of Paul Kelly. Since returning I have been in withdrawal but through everyone’s generousity, I have been able to get C-G, but am now missing A-B with full intentions of checking PK’s site every month to get the full compliment of songs. Can anyone help out with A & B please.

    Thanks so much ..
    Chad

  31. Stanon 31 Jul 2008 at 9:51 pm

Can you post “G” songs, please?

  32. Rohanon 31 Jul 2008 at 9:57 pm

Hi Stan, simply following the pattern established from previous comments in this thread will lead you to the ‘G’ songs:
    http://media.paulkelly.com.au/A-Z%20DOWNLOAD%20MP3s/G/Paul_Kelly_G.zip
    Enjoy!

  34. Eric Urdahlon 02 Sep 2008 at 12:10 pm

Hi - I also missed out on ‘A’ and ‘B’, can anyone help me out with them? Thanks!!

  35. smallishnovaon 08 Sep 2008 at 3:08 pm

I have recently obtained them after just becoming aware of this alphabetical feast. I have/am seeding them as torrents:

    http://www.mininova.org/search/?search=paul+kelly

I’ll keep seeding for a few more weeks and will add the new ones when they become available. Enough people are seeding them now that they should not disappear.

Those torrents will start showing up via google soon too.

    Hey everyone,
Someone has downloaded all the files to their website.
